For some reason when the Linux box is left running after a while it just suddenly freezes up. I can't operate anything as the keyboard and mouse are frozen, my only option up to this point is to turn it off and start it up again. Is this really my only option or is there a bug that can be sorted out?
- Which distro,
- which X version,
- which window manager,
- any errors in the errorlogs,
- does the 'freeze' occur spontaniously or when you are doing something (specific).
Distro -> RedHat 9
X version -> 4.3.0-2
win manager -> Gnome 2.0
There doesn't seem to be any obvious errors, however since removing it from the network the problem doesn't appear to be present, but I can't see how this may solve the problem!!
When I mean removing it from the network I mean litterally unpluggin it!
We have checked the IRQ's and there are no conflicts, no errors etc.
As for the no errors, I mean there are no obvious errors, this is possibly due to my inexperience on the system. We have connected the unit back to the network and are awaiting any results!!
The machine has crashed yet again and there are no messages to suggest why. The message before the crash was to say the network was up, (I had put the cable back in) and the next message was the reload after I had turned the unit off!
It appears to be simply freezing, although the problem has now occured while on the network, within 15 mins of being attached, it was off the network and working properly for atleast 1hr.
I can't see it being a hardwarre problem and the system is cool enough so heat isn't a factor.
