WPA2 encrypted wifi is not a option. Slackware 12.2
1 Attachment(s)
Hello all.
I have a rather old laptop. everything except wifi works. It seems that the card is properly recognized. but i don't seem to be able to select WPA2 in the network manager in KDE. look at the attached screen dump. How do i "enable" WPA2 ? A newer distro. is out of the question. :) Any help is greatly appreciated. |
You don't give us a lot to go on. Would be nice to know the wireless chipset and operating system. ifconfig and iwconfig are helpful commands to diagnose problems.
Your wpasupplicant may not support wpa2. Wpasupplicant might need to be edited to reflect your wireless connection. Your wireless chipset may not be capable of using wpa with linux drivers. You may need to use ndiswrapper and windows drivers to connect wpa. |
That's a limitation I too had with KDE's network manager. IIRC, wicd is in the extra/ section for 12.2. wicd allowed me to connect with wpa2 on 12.2 -
http://slackware.osuosl.org/slackware-12.2/extra/wicd/ You could also try to grab the sources from 13.1, or current and build the package on your 12.2 install here That is if your wireless card even supports wpa2 encryption. Not all wireless chipsets do. |
