Would this be feasible

Hi all,

Being a student, I am currently too poor to buy a router. I wanted to connect two PCs through the router to my cable modem. I have an old box lying around (P2, 64 meg ram, 10gig HDD) and 3 network cards. I had the idea of setting the box up as a server running Linux and putting the 3 network cards in it. 1 card connecting to the modem, the other two connecting to the other PCs via crossover cable. Is there anything wrong, or any potential problems, with this setup?
Also, what Linux distribution would you suggest as a firewall/router configured box? I plan on using ssh to maintain the Linux box, so no graphical environment would be needed. Just the minimal components to do the Job I want, and to be as secure as it can be.
Would this idea be feasible? Any comments are welcome.

I've got smoothwall up and running and it is working nicely, thanks
A quick question, taking in mind that I've been a long term windows user (), some of my boxes still run winxp. Even with a firewall box, would the individual PCs behind it need any form of software firewall running on them? Or is that pure overkill? Thanks.

I think that's pure overkill

If your firewall has a good configuration all computers behind it should be protected.
