wlan0 IEEE question

Hello,
I just installed my hostap driver. When I go "iwconfig" it says that my wlan0 IEEE is 802.11b. The problem is that my wirless router is 802.11g. Is there any way I can change my IEEE from b to g? or does 802.11b support 802.11g?

when I go iwlist scan it gives me no results (should give at least 3), I think that is the problem, the IEEE. How can I change it?

Thanks in advance!

The B and G standard for WIFI are interoperable so they should work together.
