Wireshark Error

Hello,

I was trying to switch on monitor mode when capturing packets on wireshark. The checkbox showed up for a second and then when I clicked it it dissapeared. Now everytime i go to run a live capture i get this error.

"The capture session could not be initiated (That device doesn't support monitor mode).

Please check to make sure you have sufficient permissions, and that you have the proper interface or pipe specified."

I can bypass this, and do a capture if i select the interface in the capture tab, and then select options and run a capture that way, but I'd rather figure out how to get rid of the error. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks!

have you tried to put the wireless card in mon mode before running wireshark?

i just tried airmon-ng start wlan0 and it added a new interface on the interface capture list. my fiancee is connected to the network, and has an apple...i can see that there is an apple computer connected to the network, but its not giving me her ip address, and when i apply a http filter, i can't see any of her activity. i swear i'm not trying to snoop on her. lol. its for a computer class i am taking.

so now it starts fine? is she using https? should make sure she is there with nmap

it still doesn't start my wlan0 interface...it simply added a mon0 one. i selected that out of curiosity and it showed me lots of activity, just no http, and no ip address. i mean really if she simply goes on a basic webpage, i should be able to see that in the http filter correct? as long as it is not https...i just downloaded nmap, but i am not familiar with it at all. what is the command that i'd run to determine whether or not i see her on my network? i appreciate your help btw.
