wireless not working on ubuntu
I used to be able to connect to the net using my laptop (Ubuntu 9.10)by means of wi-fi . I do not know why but I lost the facility to connect to the net.
I noticed the Network Manager disappeared from the notification area. I know my network card is working because my signal button on my laptop is working. I opened network tools and my connection is there. Every time I open the web it says the page couldn't be found or connection couldn't be established . I booted up using windows and everything was fine. Any ideas? thanks. |
Not that I can answer your question, but anyone who can will want to know the following:
Does your laptop have a hardware key to turn the wireless on and off? Mine does; I hit it by accident and thought I had lost my wireless capability, till I hit it by accident again and got the wireless back. It was a D'oh! moment. (The key has an ((antenna tower)) with on it; if I hold down the blue Fn key it becomes F2.) Also . . . What make and model of computer and wireless card? Have you tested it at another wireless source, say a Starbucks or internet cafe or something? Can you connect with a wired connection? If so, have you tried removing and reinstalling the Gnome network manager or installing wicd and trying that? Have you considered updating to Ubuntu current (10.04)? |
