I can't answer your question, but I can say I loathe that some distros/applications enable those keyring thingees by default. They may think that they are protecting users and promoting security, but all they are doing is annoying users and leading to quandaries such as yours.

I use
KeePassX for my pwords; it's cross platform and portable, so it's better than any "keyring."
