Wireless card causing Ubuntu 10.10 to freeze shortly after boot

After installing a new TP-LINK TL-WN851ND Wireless card out of the box into my computer, I turned on the machine to find it freezing almost instantly after seeing the log on screen, mouse unresponsive along with keyboard, and occasionally the same ubuntu login sound being played over and over again. After 3 boots, removed the card from the system and all is good. Any ideas ?

I had a similar problem in I guess, version 10.04 of Ubuntu and the issue was there was an open source driver for my Broadcom BCM413, a proprietary card that was being loaded on boot. So, my bet would be to get a list of all wireless card drivers loaded by default and blacklist them before inserting your Wireless card. If you manage to login, go ahead and figure out what drivers work best for your card and have them loaded on system start up.

That is how I would do it.

Just saw your reply then - ended up swapping out the card for an old ASUS I had lying around.

Thanks for your suggestion anyway.
