Wired connection problem (Installation of any distro and after)
Hi i have a Lenovo G460 with a problem when installing any distro, from the moment i boot with the usb to start with the installation proccess my wired connection stops working, and then when the distro is installed i can't access internet either, i been throught Ubuntu, Linux mint, now im on Manjaro 21.1.5 but i still have the same problem. Before changing to linux i had Windows 10 and the wired connection worked perfect so im guessing it's a linux problem(?
Im relatively new to linux so i don't know what should be the root of the problem
The Realtek RTL810x series is a) quite old, b) a bit rubbish, and c) quite well supported. It ought to work.
Can you boot one of the installation media (or a Live distribution), run the following commands, and post the results:
Code:
ifconfig -a
This should display all interfaces for which a driver is loaded. It's an old (and in some distributions, deprecated) command, so if it doesn't work, try:
Code:
ip link list
And then run this command to display all PCI/PCIe devices and their respective drivers:
Update: i've searching through similar posts and some talk about a problem with the r8169 driver, along with that doing mhwd on the cli i noticed that i had an available driver configuration which was r8168.I tried blacklisting r8169 driver and installing/modprobing r8168 but unfortunately this doesn't work either.
This is the output of lspci -v when i modprobe r8168:
Code:
06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: Lenovo Device 392e
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11

It seems that the r8169 kernel module is still being loaded but i don't have any kernel driver.
Update:
After some time of searching trough forums and posts i didn't found any solution, either way in specific cases the connection do works for a couple of seconds which makes me think that there might be a solution.
I leave the output of inxi -Fz here just in case
