WinXP to Mandrake 9.1

Hello all,

I have an XP box and just installed :Pengy:Mandrake 9.1 on a different box. I downloaded LinNeighborhood ( http://www.bnro.de/~schmidjo/download ) and installed the RPM. But before installing it I config. Samba. I'm not going to get into all the details it took me to get it working to keep you from getting to board reading my question. I will be happy to share the info with anyone who needs the help, just ask. Ok, now to get to my question. When I log on to my XP box and try and connect to my :Pengy:Linux box it ask me for a user and password. I've tried the user I created and the root user, nither one works.... ..... I am able to see my XP box from my :Pengy:Linux box. and able to access all the files... ...... I Created a folder on the Linux box and set the sharing setting to allow all users (everyone - under XP). If I right click on the folder I can set the permission, I put an x in every thing trying to get it to work. I'm still a noob, please help

How did you create the users?

Da_Quest 06-16-2003 12:09 AM

I set up the user during the installation. I have not created a different user. From the Info I've read on file sharing between XP & :Pengy: it said, the user should be the same as the one on the XP. It will not let me connect using the user or the root. Only when going from XP to :Pengy:. I did see three way within :Pengy: to add users. (KDE User Manger), (Userdrake) and (Userconf) that give me an error saying I need to be logged on as root.. The first two programs asked me for the for the root password, the 3rd does not. I don't know how to log off and back on as root, was able to in :Pengy: 8.1 from what I can remember.

Thank you for your help.
