Post WinSCP and the german umlauts (special characters like ä ö ü)

Does anyone know, how it's possible to display the german umlauts (äöüß) in winscp? I've already installed the io8859-1 nls and the cp850 nls.

Also I wasn't able to connect to a win2k smb-share with displaying these umlauts. I tried it like this:
smbmount //server/share /mnt/destination -o username=XY iocharset=iso8859-1 codepage=cp850

But didn't work, too. On the console I get ? for these characters, on WinSCP different characters like " (yes, one quotationmark).

I think it could be the same cause why both aren't working.
(first times I got the error that the system couldn't find io8859-1 but now no more because I compiled it

Using Debian 3.0r2, kernel 2.4.23.

I hope someone can help me, because I didn't find anything suitable on google and on the google newsgroup search.
