WINS on Samba

Hi,
I have a wins server running on samba and was wondering if it is wise to have more than one wins server per subnet. I think the samba docs tell you not to, but the person who set up wins on this network might have indeed had two, one of which definitely isn't now and I keep getting a lot of errors in the logs regarding packets that should be sent to a wins server and not here, which I am cleaning up on the offending machines. It got me thinking whether I should have a second WINS server as a backup, the way people usually have 2 dns servers.

Any suggestions or experiences?

Samba 3 does not support WINS replication, so you can only have one Samba WINS server. Replication is suppose to be added to Samba 4.

There is a standalone Samba WINS replication package from the Enterprise Samba web site run by the German company SerNet. Per the web site, it should be considered a "subject of rapid development" and subject to bugs.
