Question Windoze Networking problem

Greetings

I have had some success in setting up my Red Hat file server and can even see my my home directory via Samba on my Windows machine. However, and this may be a windows problem, I cannot see the Red Hat server as part of my MSHOME workgroup.

Infact I cannot find out if the Red Hat machine is even part of the MSHOME workgroup.

Please, if anyone has an idea, I'd be gratreful

Mark

When I had this same problem is was because I did not have (or had mistyped) the "hosts allow" line in the Samba configuration file.

The [global] section of the Samba configuration file at /etc/samba/smb.conf should have a line in it like:
hosts allow = [local network]/[subnet mask]
Mine has
hosts allow = 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0

I believe this line is necessary to allow the Windows machine to see the Samba box when the Windows box queries the network to see what resources are out there.
