what i'm looking to do is to somehow connect to the neighbors computers through the net to tranfer file and so forth. newbie at linux and networking, is there an easy way to do this. I'm running suse 10.0 she is running xp pro. I was just gonna use an instant msg, but i can only send one file at a time. I need to send folders and so forth, about 100 gigs in total

You need to consider VPN (virtual private networking) - though, if you are close (geographically) then you could use an ad-hoc wireless network.

Of course, you can always send the files as attachments over regular e-mail channels. Or set up a web-page with your isp and use that - you upload shared files to the web page and she downloads them?

Just how long are the crossover cables where you live?
