windows xp/2000 remote desktop
hi,
this seems to been asked alot,
i quite new to linux and i need a some advice really on remote desktops
i have a thinkpad 560x(233mhz mmx, 32ram, 4gig) and i have a 1400+ amd pc
basicly i want to run windows xp or windows 2000 on the pc controling it from my laptop via lan/wireless. i have seen a few people talking a bout vnc, rdesktop and the kde 3.2 remote desktop apps, but all i want to use the laptop for is remote desktop to control my music apps. which is the best way to go?
also, being new to linux i put redhat 9(dual boot win95) on the laptop having had it on the pc, but my laptop take 5 mins to boot, 10 mins to load mozilla, so whats the best/basic distro for the simple task of remote desktop. i dont need anything more than that.
help me!
dom

You want to connect to your PC with your laptop to use your "remote desktop" So you need a simple OS to start an RDP session.
I'd say: go for a windows client (XP or something like that) because:
If you want to control your music apps, you will need a SoundSystem that is understood by Windows. The linux soundsystem is not compatible with Windows. So you won't have sound on your linux-machine running RDP.
But, keep in mind, I have this problem, but it might be that Im totally wrong, and RDP sound does work in Lunix. I didn't get it to work, though. (So if anyone did, please tell me!)
Good Luck

the main thing is speed, im not even bothereed about graphics being very good so i thought linux because there are basic distros out there. and the speed ill get i think will be much better that windows xp. (plus linux is so much cooler)

Well, then a simple linuxdistro with linux rdp client will do...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/rdesktop is one, linrdp is another one...
There are several programs that will do the trick... I'd go for rdesktop... Free, small and fast!
good luck!
