You need to allow a few things. Usually, I just insert my own rule into iptables
/usr/sbin/iptables -I INPUT -s 192.168.0.0/24 -j ACCEPT
/usr/sbin/iptables -I OUTPUT -d 192.168.0.0/24 -j ACCEPT
These should allow your internal network (called 192.168.0.0/24 for me. it could be different for you) access to your machine, and your machine access to your internal network.
