windows & linux cant ping each other

Ive been trying with little success to set up a vnc connection between these two computers. I just found out that they are not able to ping each other. Although they are both connecting to the internet through the router just fine. Both computers are being assigned ip addresses by the router. If I have two windows computeres on the network they are able to ping each other. The linux computer is running fedora 7.

Check and see if the linux computer has any firewalls up. Have you tried pinging from both sides? And are they both connected to a wired network, or are either/both on wireless?

yes, as i said neither computer can ping the other. it is a wired network. there shouldnt be any fire wall rules besides what is default for the linux computer. the default firewall shouldnt deny ping requests should it?
