windows-7 file system visible on one network, but not on another
The question may look to be a duplicate but it is not. I have searched quite a bit but I didn't find an answer.
Windows 7 file system (windows7 laptop) is visible on my Ubuntu (ubuntu laptop) on my home network using WiFi. But when I take the two laptops to a friend's place and connect them to the network with the WiFi, the windows7 files are not visible on the Ubuntu. I am not sure what is going on here. I don't think I have Samba installed/running. Currently I don't need to access Ubuntu files from the Windows machine.
At home I have ActionTec router/WiFi and at my friend's place, he has Time Warner's router and NetGear WiFi. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond.

ask yourself what is different..
That is right the network
Your friends router will likely assign a different IP address to your own router.
try opening Nautilus and 'browse network'
Samba is a server, you don't need it to be a client
Oh, 10.04 is out of date, ( LTS has expired )

Maybe when you first connected your Windows machine to his network you told it that it was a guest network, so Windows now disables file sharing every time you connect to it?

Although I have logged into the routers, your response kinda got me thinking. I simply had not rebooted the linux box! Duh.. Once I did that, I could see the Windows7 file system on my ubuntu.
Thanks to you and everybody who went through my query.
