Windows 7 doesn't like to connect to Linux/SMB

I knew I should have waited before I retired from IT... what in the world does one need to do to get Windows 7 to access Linux SMB fileshares? All the information I've found online is sketchy and confused at best... argh.

Well, I have Samba set up and Linux and XP computers can connect to it, but Home Network doesn't see it at all.

Is it password protected? Do you have the routing properly configured?

To the OP - Have you configured samba yet?

Yes, I configured samba. All other XP and Linux computers connect to my Samba shares easily. It's Windows 7 that is the bad actor.

Go to control panel -> credential manager and try clearing out any credentials that might have gotten stored, I read up about many cases where this was the root problem. Also see here - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/75...ws-samba-issue

Hope that information helps,

Josh

Windows 7 has "home networks" which are win 7 only by default. You need to change the networking to "workgroups"; then it'll work fine.
