Question Winbind Daemon Hang

Folks - Needing to fit Ubuntu into a Windows network, I installed (apt-get) winbind and made certain edits to smb.conf and nsswitch.conf. Having done an update, I seem to have winbind3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.9. After a reboot the system hangs when trying to start the winbind daemon. Two months ago, the same setup but before the apt-get update did not have this problem. Does anyone know about daemon start messages and hangs during bootup?
