Unhappy WIN98 & SAMBA Sharing

Hello,

My Linux (RH9) Samba is able to view my Win9x network shares.

My Win98 Network neighborhood displays the workgroup name of Samba 2.x (Linux RH9) but have problems accessing the share:

"LinuxGrp is not accessible.
The computer or share name could not be found. (etc.)"

I've already done placing EnablePlainTextPassword in regedit but still the same. I've also deleted or ensure that NetBEUI is not installed.

Samba (RH9) and Win98 are both under WinNT Domain and my Samba security setting is "User".

Please help!

are you using the same username/password for your win98 box as you are for samba?

hello again ezra143,

My Win98 box is logon at WinNT Server. . . .

username : ntuser password:1456

i've created a linux user on RH9 where samba is running

username : nbjayme passwordrivate01

Then using the samba server gui config i added a user:

linux user : nbjayme
windows name : ntuser
password : 1456

could it be because i did not setup any DNS or WINS?

I really a newbie on linux and Samba.

ok, from the run command in 98 try opening a share like this \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\nbjayme
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP of your samba box. Let me know what this does.

hello ezra143 and others,

I've made some improvement (after reading some dozens of docs). One of the docs (DIAGNOSIS.txt) mentioned about firewall.

MY firewall was set to medium. I set it to no firewall and I was able to get in Samba Share in Win98 after a password prompt. But this would make my setup insecure because the firewall is totally off.

How do you set up the firewall then without interfering with SAMBA?
