Okay, I've looked through many How-To's and searched through many newsgroups but I just can't find the answer to this. I have Win2K as a server (192.168.0.1) with WinGate as the proxy on it. On my machine I have Linux-Mandrake, the thing is, I just can't get it to connect to the net (I don't care about Samba or shares), I can't even get it to ping the win2k machine.
So far I've gone through :
1.- ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.30 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
2.- netconfig
3.- DrakNet
4.- LinuxConf
5.- Editing the files manually
----I just can't get the thing to connect to my network.
I believe I have all info I need:
1.- Server IP and name+domain, 192-168.0.1
2.- Gateway, DNS, DHCP server IP (same as above)
3.- Workgroup name, NT domain name
4.- User name to log into NT domain
5.- The IP address assigned to my user name
Is there anything I'm missing? Could someone give me a quick & dirty on how to set this up, some of the HOW-TO's are kinda cryptic and the translation is weird (into spanish). Thanks...
Are specifying the use of proxy in netscape or the browser you are using on Linux.
But if you say that you can't even ping the Windows server box then you are having network issues...
Could it be just connection problems as cable or netcard???
I know I have done this in the past with a Win2k server running ms proxy server 2.0.
I used the IP 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0 and connected the Linux box with IP 10.0.0.5 255.255.255.0 then told it to use my Windows proxy setting in netscape.
Never had problems...Even with out proxy connection at least the linux box will ping or telnet to Win2k box.
