I'm using windows 2000 system.I'm unable to access files from linux machine.I have configured smb.conf file.linux machine shows in the my networkplaces. But i'm unable to access linux machine.I got an error as network path not found. But i'm able to access database from there. How can i use linux system files? Is there any other way to access linux system files apart from samba server. If you have any configured smb.cof file, please send me.
I always seem to have to whack at a Samba config a half dozen times before I can get it to work, so I don't know how much help I'll be, but...
"What he said" about the firewall. Firewalls are very important and a major pain in the butt.
Doublecheck your workgroup name. They have to be an exact match, and I think it's even case sensitive. (Assuming it is certainly won't hurt.)
My recommendation is to out on the net and look for 'How-to's and recipes for setting up Samba. I've generally found that if I find one that is an exact match to my situation, and I follow the instructions exactly, it will usually work. Trying to read the comments and configure Samba myself has not usually worked well for me.
One thing: If I read your post right, the problem is that the Windows box can see the Samba box (and if that's true, forget what I said about the workgroup name -- they obviously match) but it can't get into any of the files. There's a separate section where you have to set up shares manually. Just basic setup of samba doesn't give you any kind of share.
Related to that, see what user samba is running as, and make sure that user has read/write rights to the directories it's supposed to be sharing.
