will netconfig or netcfg work with Debian?
Hi guys
I was initially connected to internet when I was using Debian (woody 3.0r2) on a 2.2 kernel, but after upgrading to kernel 2.4.24, some thing happened and my browser is not connecting to the net.
I am connected to T1 (broadband, university supplied network) and ipconfig /all in windows 2k tells me I am using Realtek RTL8139 fast ethernet.
But I could ping my localhost and it was fine. (just to confirm, if I ping, it gives me continuous bytes transmission like 64 bytes sent blah blah each line), Ctrl+C --> total packets sent 4 received 4, somthing like that, right??
ifconfig gives me no IP addresses or nothing on the eth0 device. but then I modified the /etc/network/interfaces to include the IPaddress, mask, etc.
after this, ifconfig gives me information on ipaddress, etc.
and issued /etc/init.d/networking restart. it restarted the networking but when trying to browse say yahoo, gives me , "www.yahoo.com could not be found"
Thanks.
