I am using Red Hat 7.3 on a 350 MHz p2 Gateway computer with 176 mg of memory (64+64+32+16). I had an ISA network adapter and made post about it after trying to get it to work. It never did. I finally got a pci network adapter, and it is not working. Red Hat recognizes it and asked me to configure it when the while the system was coming up. I thought it could be the old version of Red Hat thats too old for it. Now that I have more memory, I thought of trying Knoppix again, and it worked. Knoppix came up, but my Internet did not on Knoppix. On my laptop, Knoppix never needed any configuration for DSL. It worked automatically with dhcp. Here is what the output of lspci on Knoppix said my network adapter was.
Code:
RealTek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
Here is the output part of my network adapter on Red Hat from lspci.
Code:
RealTek Semiconductor C., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C (rev 10)
Using network configuration, I tried using dhcp and both of these.
Code:
RTL8139, SMC EZ Card Fast Ethernet
and
Code:
RealTek RTL 8129, Fast Ethernet
When I use the first one, Red Hat takes a while to fail when I try to activate the Internet.
