Unhappy wifi not connecting with 11.10


hey I am new here:
having trouble connecting with 11.10 to wireless network; it willconnect with ethernet cable no probs.

any ideas - seems others may have had problems too.

I assume you're using Ubuntu. I will also assume you're using the GUI connection manager?
We need some more information about your network before we can help.
1. Are you able to connect to the wireless network with any other computers?
2. What message are you getting that says it's not connected?

You can see what is happening with your wireless card with the following command. Open the terminal and type:

sudo iwconfig
and see what it says.

It is possible your wireless device requires firmware to be installed for it to work. While connected wired, look through start menus for something like "Restricted drivers" and see if there are some available and install the network related item. If not, post the output of this command to see which wireless device you have: lspci | grep Network
