wifi fast then slow

Hello All,

I am having an odd problem with my wifi. Upon initial boot up, laptop A wifi works great! Mail, websites, samba server access, everything is fast. After some time (varies but not too long) everything slows way down. Mail, websites and samba server access take a very long time to connect and sometimes timeout.
This issue started about two weeks ago but I was moving so let it go. Now I am in a different house with a different router and the issue persists.
Obviously the problem is with laptop A because I have another laptop (B) that works fine.
Both laptops are loaded with KDE Neon and fully up to date as of 10 Aug 2020.
I'm not new to linux but I am getting old and slow. My memory isn't as good as it once was.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Found powersave for wifi was set to on. Changed to off and works fine now. System has been running for 18 months with no issues. Don't know why or how the setting got changed.

I would also test with a wired connection to make sure the issue is isolated to the wireless connection.

How old is this machine?

Frankbell, this laptop doesn't have an Ethernet connection. It is 14 months old.
pan64, I looked at var/log and saw there is a powersave-on.conf file. Changed that to powersave off. Testing right now.

If this is indeed with powersave mode for wifi, this might be of interest - https://unix.stackexchange.com/quest...nt-permanently

Else, please provide information about the chipset (realtek/intel/broadcom) and the driver currently in use.

Words fail me. That's just nuts.

If it were older, I'd be suspecting a hardware issue. Stuff does wear out.

Are laptops A and B the same make/model?

You might want to take a look at the ss command. It might give some hints as to what is happening.

Lots of new laptops don't have ethernet connectors. Wire is so 20th Century.
