why is my Samba share being called a Windows share?

I set up a certain directory on one of my computers (both running the same Linux distro) to be shared between both of them as a Samba share. Just curious: When I access the share through Thunar-->Browse Network---MX1 [name of computer], why does Thunar label the shares "Windows shares on MX1"? Windows has nothing to do with this.

Probably just because it was developed primarily as a means of sharing between windows and other OS'es.

What LandyVlad said. Samba was developed to enable *nix systems to create shared directories that Windows computers could see. Samba's name, in fact, was derived from the acronym for "server message block," an sharing technology used primarily by MicroSoft.

I personally would hardly find that necessary. I just didn't know Samba had been largely for Windows.
