Why is KPPP dying?
Whenever I am on the net for an extended period, I get a message "ppp daemon has died". What causes this and how do I fix it. Also, where to I go to turn on the log, so that I can debug?

I don't know what log_facility pppd says, but you could try adding a line like :
*.*(tab)/var/log/catchall
to your /etc/syslog.conf, then restart syslogd.
This will catch all messages at all levels.
Is your pppd the version required by your kernel (/usr/src/linux/Documentation)?

Sorry, looked for something that said "kppp" withing networking, but found nothing. Any more suggestions? I am using kppp-dialer, a front end for wvdial, I think.

What is the number which is given for the reason. Is it a non-activity error, with the ISP cutting the connection?
Its been a long time since I messed around with pppd but I think in /etc/ppp/options file you need to add a line which says debug. I think. Then this record all pppd messages in your logs.
