Question why doesn't my DNS server work?

I am using a Red Hat 9.0 and configured my DNS by editing the text files like named.conf etc. without using graphical interface
i have chosen my domain as impact.aeie.org and server host name as monty
now my machine was able to ping both
monty.impact.aeie.org
alam.impact.aeie.org ( another client)
but when i moved to client machine it couldn't ping even monty.impact.aeie.org though it still can ping monty (the hostname)
I don't have any nameserver or sec server configured .

pls help

also Can i use my Primary DNS server as the only name server on the network?
