Why does kppp.desktop require root userid for non-root user?

I have recently discovered kppp.desktop and like the way it works better than rp3, however, whenever I invoke kppp.desktop, I get a dialog boxe that says something like "in order to run with root's privileges, additional information is required...Password for root".
How do I change the way this program works, so that it does not require root's password?

Hmmm. Does the user have permissions to access the modem?

Is there a config file for the kppp?

Sorry, didn't read all of Mcleodnine's post

Don't know if there is a config file for kppp. All I have been able to find is the file (recalling from memory) kppp.desktop. I am not using Linux right now, and can't remember the full path of this file.

Question

Hey I came to this forum today to ask the exact same question! I am running Linux Mandrake 8.0 and when I click the Internet icon, it asks for "root's" password (when I am not logged on as root). I have DSL so instead of a modem I have a Ethernet card installed.

I have looked through every configuration I can think of (Control panel, DSL setup, etc) and can not find an option where it forces you to be root.

Please help....
