Why does a client get a login failure with ppp.
I have set up ppp on Fedora 6 on an Intel motherboard, dual core Intel Processor with 1Gb RAM.
The client dials in, mgetty answers but the process fails when the verification of the username and password takes place.
In the /var/log/messages I get the following:
bvmitweb mgetty[3901]: getpwnam('-a_ppp') failed: Success
bvmitweb mgetty[3901]: data dev=ttyUSB0, pid=3901, caller='none', conn='26400/V44', name='', cmd='auth', user='/AutoPPP/'
bvmitweb mgetty[3901]: cannot execute 'auth': No such file or directory
The user in the /etc/ppp/pap-secrets file has been created in the /etc/passwd file with a login shell /usr/sbin/pppd.
I have checked and rechecked that the username and password used by the client is the same as that set up in /etc/ppp/pap-secrets.
Can anyone give me an idea where I should be looking to find the fault or give me the answer to the problem. PLEASE BARE IN MIND THAT I'M A NOVICE AT LINUX.
