You problem would seem to be that your ethernet card has not been assigned an address.

You are receiving packets so you are live. You need to assign an address to the card.

What is your networking environment? What is this machine connected to? You will either need to enable DHCP or else assign a fixed address. I can't tell you which way to go without more information.

Hello,

I want my linux box connected to a Win MsHome network that I have set up prior to Linux. This hub had 6 boxes connected to it and also a router which goes to a cable modem and to the Internet.

At the moment I just need to connect to the web, not set up a smb to connect to the other win boxes.

It used to work fine DHCP when it was connected to the hub and went out to the web via an XP box and Win Internet sharing. I have since bought the router and all boxes go out now thru it.

All the other XP boxes on the LAN are DHCP as well.

I hope this is what you need to know.

Thanks

Similar problem here... I have 3 comps plugged into a hub, which goes to a DSL modem. All 3 machines have a working LAN set up in XP, and all have working pppoe connections.
In Redhat though, the same options don't seem to work. Linux finds my sis900 adapter, and it also shows that it's working fine. Then, when I set up an xdsl connection through eth0, it fails to initialize ppp0. I don't have DHCP, since I connect through teh hub straight into the modem, and have a dynamic IP with my ISP.
I am a newbie to Linux, but my fairly experienced friend sat at my comp for 3 hrs as well, and couldn't get it working. Any ideas?

Thanks.

similiar problems again

hi its me again I just reinstalled red hat linux on my old computer. I'm going to make it into a file server and the eth0 is acting up again with the same problem so I'll do all the steps. When I do ifconfig their is no line starting with eth0. all the rest are the the inet adress and the word UP. When lspci is done there is a line with sis900 in it. so after I did modprobe I got these error messeges. /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/sis900.0: ins mod/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/sis900.0 failed.
What should I do next?
