Which router is best for Linux?

I'm going to Fry's tomorrow to buy a router (and some other stuff).. what's the cheapest router for Linux and how would I configure Linux to run with it?

Thanks...

Read the RULES you agreed to when you signed up to use LQ.

Do not post the same discussion in more than one forum. Duplicate discussions can be frustrating for other members. Try and pick the most relevant forum for your post. If you are unsure put it in Linux - General.

I have a linksys with the 4 port switch that works good and was $ 50.00. As far as configuring, depends what kind of internet connection you have. I have cable and you use dhcp for the router and dhcp client for the linux box and your good to go..

Mine is a D-Link 704P. This, and most routers, have a web interface where you
do all the configuration from your web browser. I don't even think the router is
actually recognized, as such, by Slack.

Just don't get any type of USB model, and check in the hcl (Hardware Compatability LIst)
here at LQ for information before you purchase a new piece of hardware.

I have the Phoebe Octopus 4IR router, it can be seen in Windows by web surfing to an IP address, but in Linux this same technique never works.

When you setup your network in Linux, the gateway address should be that of your router.

In Slackware Linux you login as root and issue the command
# netconfig
If you've got one of those commercial distros like Mandreck or Dead Rat I
don't have a clue.

You should use that user cp button at the top of this page and enter some
more information in your control panel -- specifically your distribution, so
that we can be more helpful to you.
