Question Which OS for Squid?

Hi
I got a new Router who will run next Year with the new Switch.
The have some Contend Filter who dont block "bad" Links.
Now my Squid run on a Win Server on an 11 Year old IBM Server.
Sure the Server is not neccary now. I could switch over Time all Services to my ESXi Server.

Just the Squid remain there. The run als normal Proxy not as Transparent. I have just one Lan now later I will use Vlan with the new Switch.

So I have NO clue about that Linux OS. Sure on my Router the will run some, Android is theoretically some Unix to,...
Thanks

Is there a question in here somewhere??? What are you asking? What do you want to do??

If you're asking "Can you run Squid on Linux", the answer is obviously "Yes", since you've been working with squid for years now:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ck-4175619344/
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...curity-930878/
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ml#post5480367
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...id-4175591819/

ANY version/distro of Linux can run Squid, but you've given zero details about your hardware or what you're upgrading to, so we can't recommend anything. Further, since you've been working with Squid for years, you know that the squid configuration files can be copied to a new server. What's the problem with copying them?

No clue what you're talking about for the rest of your thread, as it doesn't seem to make sense. Not sure why you're mentioning a new switch that will run "next year", mentioning LAN, VLAN, Android, router, or the rest of your post. Ask a clear question.

Which Unix OS should I choose to?
It will run on an ESXi Server.
I also dont know what thinks I could do under Linux who not work under Win right now.
Since squid cache everything who is running truth I would like to cache Images on the Virtual Drive because a TV when the switch channel the connect to the HBBTV Server and download Images and other unencrypt (!).
So I want to chache every Image who is possible to get a very low latency.

Copy the File would not help because Win and Unix use different Configs.

So when I install any Unix System are there a Way to Copy the hole "Bad Domains" List into?

Unix is *NOT* Linux. Again, as you were told, you can pick ANY version/distro, and Squid will work. You *STILL* provide no details that would let anyone make a suggestion. CentOS is typically good for servers, but you don't say how many users, bandwidth, or give ANY details.

No idea what you're saying here.

AGAIN, you are not making any sense. You don't answer previous questions about LAN/VLAN/'next year' switch, etc., and now you're throwing TV into it, along with switching channels??

AGAIN, since you've been working with Squid for years, and as you were told before, you can copy your configs to the new server. There are many how-to guides.

Unless you can ask a clear question and provide details, there's nothing we can answer.

this the first time you ask for. ~20 Devices, 30Mb Download with your Cable Plan.

The Config for Squid on Win and Linux is different to Copy Files dont work. I know it because How to for Squid on Linux dont work mostly under Win.
Quote:

Again. I use a Network who is just a Lan without Vlan so I cant use Squid as Transparent Proxy now. With the new Swtich I can make Vlans who allow me to pipe all Data truth an Transparent Squid.

Do you know what HBBTV is?

On Win only!

sure I can but the will not work...

I need a Distro who can I try to install it on my ESXi Server. If the run I must see how I can install Squid onto.

For someone who work with a Linux Distro its easy. Its sad that so many Projects for Linux have an horrible Documentation and not usable for beginners.

You go back and re-read what's been told to you, that's how.
Quote:

When YOU are asking a question, it's up to YOU to provide the details...don't make people ask over and over.

Wrong; the INSTALLATION guides are different, but the configs are 99% identical. And yes, you will actually have to do some work to make the configs work, but there are zero problems getting blacklists/whitelists, ACL's, and other such things working.

Again, no idea what you're saying here. You don't need a VLAN to use Squid, especially since you're doing this on (apparently) a home network. Put the proxy server between your access point/router and the Internet. Done.
Quote:

No, and it doesn't matter at all, in any way. Squid is an HTTP proxy...that's all it does.

Sorry, no. There are THOUSANDS of easily found, easy-to-follow installation guides for Squid. AGAIN, you can use pretty much ANY distro of Linux...you STILL don't say what kind of system, past 'ESXi'...which is a commercial, pay-for product. You can run Squid on a pretty small system for 20 devices....again, pick any distro you want.

All you're saying is that you want to install Squid on Linux....which is easily done. Putting "how to install squid on <Linux distro>" into Google pulls up lots, with step-by-step guides. AGAIN, the text-based config files can be copied over, but yes you may actually have to do something to make them work, since "C:" isn't on Linux, for example. Again, since you've been working with Squid for years at this point, what is the actual difficulty you're having with getting things to work?

Again: your squid configuration won't change from Windows to Linux, except for very obvious things like file paths. Copy whatever rules you have in Squid over; copy your configs. Start Squid.

If you don't understand what it's doing on Windows now, moving it to Linux won't explain it.

well it is not that one

ok, so
before you go posting your other filters...
are they all flat like those?
your filters appear to be just basic lists

lets relook at

cdnjs.cloudflare.com

content delivery network
javascript

it might be the compete URL and not just the DN that is being rejected.

well, after seeing your filters
Code:
grep -r this.urlwasblocked.com /etc/squid/
you might be better off using privoxy to block stuff ( you can probably ditch
99% of your squid filters )

depending how it is configured It will report which rule blocked it
you can also test an URL to see what actions would be taken

just have squid use privoxy as a parent for http if you want to cache things

install privoxy via your disto's package manager
learn how to use it at https://www.privoxy.org/
