Which NAS devices for backup/media for Ubuntu and Windows laptops and Android

Within the last month I moved from a Windows to Ubuntu laptop. For my Window(s) computers (wife and mine) I was using 3rd Party backup/sync service, but with a Linux computer they want about 3x the $$ 'cause its a server.... anyway

Initially, I need backup capability for both the Windows and Ubuntu computers. We have a small collection of music, a bunch of pictures, and at the moment no steaming content, no smart TV, but stream to the TV with Roku. Will use RAID 1.

Most of the reviews I have found for NAS devices are several years old. What NAS product are you using and would you buy it again?

Thanks in advance, Roy

Might look at some of the soho offerings. Cheaper may be the WD ex2. Synology and Qnap will have more features for home use/small office use.

I use a dedicated 6tb ex2 using iscsi just for backups and then put in safe. I don't like the idea of my backups being online all the time. They are for emergency only. I'd buy a second nas just for shared data that was left on all the time.

Somewhat complete http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2401086,00.asp maybe higher stuff than you need. Consider power usage too.
