Red face where should database be installed?

Hi, everyone. I'm wondering if the database should be installed on a separate partition from the application (which are using the database), because i heard from somewhere that for Mircrosoft server, we should put the web server separate from the database.

but now, i'm not using MS SQL, i'm using MySQL instead, which is installed in linux enviroment. Should i separate the database as well for security reason?? thanks.

Welcome to LQ.

There is no real need to do it but I have a general rule that all data is stored on a seperate /home partition - this makes it much easier to perform system upgrades and backups.

I can't imagine how installing it on a different partition would increase secutiry. If it is security that you are concerned about I can move this thread the the Security forum if you like.
