where's a good networking guide?

I google'd around but was coming up with oooold results. Can anyone point me to a recent guide that would tell me how to set up my network properly?

I have ADSL > router which acts as a gateway. I want the Linux server to have samba and be a dhcp server. Clients are Win2k and WinXP.

I have actually done this once before 3 years ago but was never really successful with the Windows machines being able to see each other and the server in Network Neighborhood very well.

Regards,
CSG

i could be wrong but I think your linux box would need to be a gateway in order to be the dhcp server for your network. someone may correct my on this one. my setup is like:
modem/router >> linux gateway dhcp/samba/proxy server >> network switch >> lan
which linux distribution are you going to be running?

What distro are you using? Most decent ones have some networking guides on their website or on specialized websites;
