Question When to use NS1 and or NS2 for Primary and Secondary Name Servers

Hello all,

I registered a domain name with the register and a friend said he would provide the secondary name server for me.

I filled in the primary as ns1.mysite.com and
secondary as ns1.hissite.com

I saved the configuration and then redisplayed it and the entries were reversed.

Both entries start with NS1...

Question, what is the difference between NS1 and NS2 etc...

Should the secondary be listed starting with ns2.hissite.com.

Any help in clearing this up for me will be greatly appreciated.

I'm a newbie.

Thanks again.

Don't worry about the names, they does not really matter...
NS1, NS2... is simply a convention, which says that if you provide your own dns servers they are usually named
ns1.yourdomain, ns2.yourdomain.

What is important is that your registrar has glue to your name servers. You have to tell your registrar the ip's where you are hosting name servers and their names. Make sure your dns zone file name matches what is in your bind zone file for the domain.

For example, if you tell your registrar that ns0.yourdomain.org is at ###.###.###.### then there needs to be a dns server at that address with a zone file for yourdomain.org with NS record that matches ns0.yourdomain.org
