when accessing XP shares from Suse I get only empty folder

Hi

I have 2 computers. One has only XP, and other XP and openSuse 11 Gnome. File and printer sharing works fine when both are in XP. The problem is that I can see XP computer from opensuse, but when I try to access it I get only empty folder, no shares in it. I have tried to disable firewall, but no change. Any ideas ?

Can the XP/openSUSE computer see the other XP share files when you use XP instead of openSUSE?

Are you using Samba? If not then I would definitely take a look at it. http://en.opensuse.org/Samba

I would also take a look at if you have window's file sharing turned on if you haven't.

Hope this helps.

hi kaiwan,

windows file sharing - especially using NTFS has more advanced security feature than basic file/folder samba sharing in linux. make sure you check the file/folder security properties in your windows box - and disable that simple file sharing feature.

HTH.

But I had no problems with that while I was having Ubuntu..so should not it be ok ?

And one other thing, I tried to disable firewall, and after reboot it worked fine, no problems, but with firewall on I can see the XP comp but as an empty folder. But under firewall I have set samba service to be allowed
