What permission does my modem need to have?
Hi,
I just finally managed to setup my Conexant winmodem. I had to reboot to Windows to ask this. What permissions does it need to have? It's set up as /dev/ttyHSF0 on Mandrake 7.1
Thanks!

I'm trying to get my winmodem going using the drivers here, http://www.mbsi.ca/hsflinux/
It said that the modem was set up successfully on /dev/ttyHSF0 but when I run my ppp-on script nothing happens. What could be the problem? Should I just try installing kppp or some GUI tool for it that might be easier for a n00b like me? The drivers' readme file says that I have to give it "the appropriate permissions for my distro".
Cheers

it's likely that the software has no idea that that modem device exists. try using wvdialconf to scan for a modem, and if it can't find it, then try making a symlink from that device to /dev/modem for example.
ln -s /dev/thatdevicenameiforgot /dev/modem

hi
Hi,
acid_kewpie is right .... try what he has said and also try using minicom ...... read the manual for minicom and confirm if modem is being recognized or not ( by linux ).
regards,
Xanthium.
