what is your resolv.conf setting
Dear Buddies:
I have a problem for my DNS settings. In my ubuntu/winxp dual system, the speed of Mozilla-firefox in ubuntu was slow, while IE in windows is fast. Firefox use quite considerable time "looking up xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" when go to a website. My question is whether there is someway to configure ubuntu so that it can resolve a domain name faster. I understand different people may have different DNS because they have different network. But is there a generic DNS that I can use to make my firefox faster? Thanks a lot Septanla |
hi,
just a thought. how about adding most used websites ip address to their name under /etc/hosts |
Do I have a better solution? How can I find my ISP's DNS or is there any DNS that is fast to most people for certain regions?

If you have a router, your ISP's DNS servers should be listed on one of the configuration pages and you can just write down the IP addresses from there. Otherwise I would check your ISP's website and/or ask their help desk for the info.
