i'm seeing a network interface called "sit0" next to lo , eth0

what is sit0

Basically a "device" used to tunnel IPv6 through an IPv4 connection.

alright , now that's interesting !

does anybody know how to disable this (i.e removing it all together)? not that it causes any problems but i don't like having things around that serve no purpose to me (at least not now)
since when does this get compiled into the kernel by default? wait is this a kernel module to begin with ? or something else?
