What can and cannot be done???
 

Everyone over here experts i am new to RH9 and have installed in Laptop and Desktop, now after installing i am not sure how to go ahead to do R&D please share your experience what all i can do and cannot be done with these two systems like comunicating with each other one as server other as workstation/desktop.wht are the requirments for the RH9 to be complete server on one system tell me some usefull tips if i go tomm to work on Linux Adminsitration what are the task to handled by admin and what shld i learn.

Both can easily be everything, although with varying performance. Start with your documentation CD, starting with server configuration. Start with the server system of your choice on the desktop, access it with the laptop. If you learn and get all the servers installed and working, you are WELL on your way to what you need to know. Of course, you need a lan, or at least a small hub to connect the two of them together in a 'Network', but that config is the same as for Windows and is therefore left as an exercise for the reader. :)

If you are completely new to Linux, start at a higher level, again, with the documentation CD, and learn the desktop, console tutorials, installing/removing software, etc. All the basics.

Thanks RO i have seen others posting about samba so i went thru the google to know about this samba and they mentioned that it supports the fetaures like Active Directory support,Unicode support,filename mangling system etc all these features are a not inbuilt in RH9 or not? IF no then only samba is the solution for it.

Well, samba is a must for a Linux network admin, however, I don't know how hard it is to tackle. If I had to guess, I think an httpd server is easiest, but others may have an idea of the easiest server to set up. You don't want to start with the hardest one. :) Actually, I think the easiest is to install a printer on the desktop with CUPS, then add the printer on the Laptop as a remote printer. So long as the printer is supported, that is the easiest 'server', a print server, to set up.
