Okay,
This may sound really stupid but here goes... I have loaded RH7.1 on two machines at home that are connected through a 5 port hub. No DNS, DHCP. I have assigned them both a IP address of say 10.89.16.2 and 10.89.16.3. submask 0f 255.255.255.0. I have set up the /etc/hosts file on both machines. I AM able to ping both machines by ip AND name. But I CANNOT telnet, ftp, ssh to each other??? Am I missing something in the route table?? And I CANNOT telnet,ssh to the LOCALHOST. When trying to do so...local or remote I get .... CONNECTION REFUSED????

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Having read an earlier post it seems there are a couple of steps I had missed. 1.) RH 7.1 by default turns telnet off. 2.) ipchains blocks all tcp connections from ports 0 to 1023.

Wo.....well, I'll have to give it a spin.
