That depends on the provider you intend to use. I would suspect that hosting on 3G would be quite expensive. Here in Canada, the wireless provider would disable your account if you tried to host, as the data usage would be far too high (of course, they'd charge you more than enough to purchase a new car, as well).

I agree with vectordrake.

The speeds would be almost as bad a dial up in most plans. See the details on the plan you want. It may also run a ton of money by data use. Wireless tends to limit use and charge a lot if you go over.

Might look at hosted plans. They may not really end up costing much more than you'd have paid for the equipment and electricity to run your server.

So - what's the actual speed then? Say for a 21.1 download speed as TataDocomo are advertising?

A good guess might be a twenty to one ratio,that is upload will be twenty times less than the download.

I currently have a 3g connection as well, in south africa however also at 21mbps, using speed test my uploads are about 3.82mbps. If you already have the device, check www.speedtest.net

Hi,

in theory 3G can support 56mbit/s down and 22mbit/s up, but it is nowhere near in real world due to bandwidth being shared by all users within single cell sector and amount of units your provider installed on the cell tower near you. So the answer is only empirical - speedtest.net or testmyiphone.com
also keep in mind latency is also a variable hosting if you want your site/application to be "snappy" hosting on 3G might kill it due to its natively higher latency.
