Weird Behaviour of Network Cables and Cards

I wanted to create a home network with my two computers. So I bought 2 network cards, a hub and 2 straight twisted pair cables (3, 22 meters each). I wanted the network to be expandable, thats why I bought the hub.

I installed the network cards on each machine and installed the drivers properly. When I connected the cables to the network cards and the hub... something weird happens. The link light on the network card lights up, only if the cable is connected in one particular way. If I swap the ends of the cables and connect, the light doesnt light up. This happens with both the cables. With the long 22m cable, the light comes up after a long time from boot up, some times doesnt come at all.

Is this a problem with the cable, network cards, hub or the Computer (not being earthed/grounded)???

Can anyone please help me???

I think this is cable problem. Link must light up always, independently from end of cable, which plug in. Try to find surely good small cable and check the link.
