web server wants me to download something...
I set up a webserver following stanton finley's guide and when I go to it says:

You have chosen to open

which is a: application/x-http-php
from: http://url

What should Firefox do with this file? yadayada.

I'm completely new, I will do lots of reading about web servers but for now I just wanted to get something up and running... Any suggestions?

Oops, read your server docs first, really. In Apache httpd read about AddHandler/AddAction. And check you have php installed at all (or mod_php installed anf configured), read its manual too. You didn't explain to server how do you want it to handle .php files. Default for unknown files is to let user download it, while you want it to be executed on server. To get something up and running, try putting simple html page.

Hello, thanks. I tried various combinations of things and at this point I can get it to display the html but it also comes up with a thing that asks me to download. (the only file in the www/http directory is index.html) I dont know why it does this, and also when i do: "apachectl -l" i get: core.c

and that is all, so I dont have the mod_php. I'm wondering what is the most efficient way to install mods? They can be installed I know because of mod_so.c right?
