Web Browser Problems! Please Help!

Hello.

I'm running Slackware 9.1 with Epiphany as my main browser. Every single site I try to go to times out within half a second (approx) and I get a popup saying "Page could not be found. Please check the name and try again." Of course, I try again, and it works.

I believe the problem lies with my ISP, because they just got a new router and are upgrading their system.

Anyway... Does anyone know of a way to change the length of time before Epiphany times out, or a way to set the number of automatic retries that it will make before timing out? If not Epiphany, maybe Galeon, Mozilla, Netscape?

Thanks

It's possible their primary name server is timing out. Look at your name server hosts listed in /etc/resolv.conf.

Do
dig @nameserver1 google.com
then
dig @nameserver2 google.com
etc. If you get the IP addresses back in the answer section, then that name server is working properly. If you get a time-out, NXDOMAIN, or any other error, then the name server is having a problem. Comment it out until you verify that it's working correctly.

Thanks

Thanks!

I hadn't even known of the dig command. That'll be useful from time to time. I found out my primary nameserver was timing out. So I set the secondary as the primary, and the problem is solved.

Thanks again.
