Want Router Setup Help.

I have a linksys router on a college network and 2 computers behind it. One is a server. The other is for regular use.

I have the router set up to forward port 80 to the server. It works fine to serve a website except that when I try to use GAIM on the non-server computer then the website that is being served on the other computer is not able to be seen anymore for some reason untill I restart the non-server computer and do not use GAIM.

Any ideas? I am using Libranet on the server and Suse on the non-server.

Hi John

What error are you getting from the server when you cant see the web page ? Do both machines have static
ip's ? Sounds like a DNS issue or possibly a hosts file issue. Tell me what u can. I am not an apache expert but I may b able to help with routing etc. I dont think that gaim is the cause, tell me what u can.

It is giving me a refused connection error. I have them set up as dynamic IP's.

Sounds like a port conflict. Check your GAIM config and make sure its not using port 80. Can you provide output of 'lsof -i tcp'?

lsof -i tcp (BEFORE I RAN GAIM):
Code:
wolf@lunareagle:~> lsof -i tcp
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
firefox-b 6555 wolf   24u  IPv4  21425       TCP 192.168.1.100:37874->64.233.187.104:http (ESTABLISHED)
firefox-b 6555 wolf   34u  IPv4  21783       TCP 192.168.1.100:37887->64.233.187.104:http (ESTABLISHED)
firefox-b 6555 wolf   35u  IPv4  21639       TCP 192.168.1.100:37880->64.233.187.104:http (ESTABLISHED)
lsof -i tcp (AFTER I RAN GAIM):
Code:
wolf@lunareagle:~> lsof -i tcp
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
firefox-b 6555 wolf   34u  IPv4  21783       TCP 192.168.1.100:37887->64.233.187.104:http (ESTABLISHED)
firefox-b 6555 wolf   35u  IPv4  21639       TCP 192.168.1.100:37880->64.233.187.104:http (ESTABLISHED)
gaim      6907 wolf   17u  IPv4  24147       TCP 192.168.1.100:55010->cs45.msg.dcn.yahoo.com:mmcc (ESTABLISHED)
gaim      6907 wolf   19u  IPv4  24152       TCP 192.168.1.100:47088->205.188.8.108:aol (ESTABLISHED)
gaim      6907 wolf   21u  IPv4  24200       TCP 192.168.1.100:42504->oam-d13c.blue.aol.com:aol (ESTABLISHED)
gaim      6907 wolf   22u  IPv4  24202       TCP 192.168.1.100:42838->caim-d04b.blue.aol.com:aol (ESTABLISHED)
GAIM does give me an option to specify range of ports to listen on. (I have not messed with that yet).
